The Cowtown Rodeo is one of only two weekly ongoing PRCA-Sanctioned Rodeos in the United States. The other is in Mesquite, Texas. Since 1929, Cowtown is an event on the professional circuit for hundreds of competitors from across the nation.

The early rodeos saw five events: Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Bull Riding, Calf Roping and Steer Wrestling. In 1960, Girls Barrel Racing was added, and in the 80’s, Team Roping made the seventh event, today considered a “full rodeo”.
